Her beauty is not only skin deep.
A Miss Universe contestant has been praised for showing off her skin condition ahead of the international beauty pageant, which takes place on Saturday night.
Logina Salah, a 34-year-old model representing Egypt, has vitiligo, an autoimmune disorder that results in the loss of pigment in areas of the skin.
She also suffers from lupus, another autoimmune disorder that causes the body to mistakenly attack healthy tissues or organs.
According to Jam Press, her conditions have not prevented her from participating in the Miss Universe pageant, where she hopes to make history if she takes home the crown.
The Alexandria, Egypt native, who is also the mother of a 10-year-old daughter, has become an advocate for skin positivity online, where she boasts 1.8 million followers on Instagram and another 1.2 million on TikTok.
Salah, according to Jam Press, was a professional makeup artist because of her skin condition, which she felt she needed to hide. But after she got tired of leading a “double life”, she stopped covering her face and has since become a supporter of the skin positivity movement.
When she was announced as Miss Egypt’s delegate to the Miss Universe pageant – a pageant that has been dogged by scandal and controversy – fans raved about her beauty and confidence in Instagram comments.
“Stunning!” one person wrote. “The first delegate ever to win with a rare skin disease! A true embodiment of INCLUSIVENESS!”
“The most beautiful and true inclusion,” said someone else.
“Incredible courage and resilience,” exclaimed another. “What a great example and lesson you are leaving humanity and that makes it beautiful. Go to Egypt.”
“Now that’s a Miss Universe queen,” admitted one user.
