Merry Christmas little ones.
Moderation is the new craze as consumers adopt the ‘zebra striping’ method of drinking when socializing on the town – alternating every alcoholic drink with something non-alcoholic.
And, surprisingly, it’s the so-called curious Gen Z people who are quickly adopting this trend – with 78% of the age group admitting to reducing their alcohol consumption on nights out, according to a survey conducted in the UK.
Other adults weren’t far behind, with two in three agreeing to do the same. Overall, 25% of respondents were already strictly adhering to the rules of undressing, the Standard reported.
Shockingly, a 2022 study found that one in three UK pub visits are alcohol-free these days.
And companies like Benchmark Drinks, which handles Kylie Minogue’s wine brand, seem to have been quick to spot the elephant – or rather, zebra – in the room.
The Locomotion singer is ready to sell a brilliant 0% rosé to appeal to new and mostly young customers – one that is said to be disrupting the wine industry.
“Zero percent is one of the biggest trends in drinks,” Benchmark’s Paul Schaafsma told The Drinks Business. He mentioned that Minogue’s product has sold over a million bottles.
Schaafsma added that in the UK, 0% beer is 5% of the beer market and 0% wine has the potential to become a “400 million [Pound] UK business.”
An increase in fashion chic and a focus on health – with TikTokker recently denouncing the drink as the cigarette of 2024 – could also be driving the booze-friendly campaign.
According to Global Market Insights, the refined and creative fruit flavored, carbonated and well-decorated virgin beverage industry is poised to reach $30 billion in value by 2025.
Even in the Big Apple, downtown bars like Hekate are going Prohibition-style by not serving alcohol — billing themselves as a “sobriety haven,” The Post previously reported.
